Frequently Asked Questions
There are a number of concerns while navigating the world of high-capacity cream chargers, particularly with relation to logistics, safety, and legality. At Smartwhip Canada, we are committed to providing our clients with the information they need to make responsible and efficient use of our products.
Below are the most frequently asked questions about obtaining and using Smartwhip in Canada in 2026.
Getting Started with Smartwhip
What exactly is Smartwhip?
Smartwhip is a large-format cream charger containing 640g of food-grade Nitrous Oxide (N2O). It is designed to replace the small, 8g “bulbs” traditionally used in kitchens. One Smartwhip cylinder provides the same volume of gas as approximately 80 individual chargers, allowing for faster service and less waste.
Is Smartwhip legal to buy in Canada?
Yes. It is perfectly legal to buy and use Smartwhip in Canada for culinary and catering reasons. N2O is a recognized food additive (E942) used to create foams and whipped textures. Selling or buying this product for recreational inhalation, however, is prohibited. We firmly enforce an 18+ age requirement for all purchases.
Do I need a special license to buy Smartwhip?
No specialized license is required for individuals or businesses to purchase Smartwhip for food preparation. However, if you are a business, we recommend keeping your purchase receipts for your food safety records.
How do I know how much pressure to use?
The beauty of the Smartwhip system is the precision. Generally, 8-10 bar is the standard for whipped cream, but you can adjust the regulator based on the thickness of your ingredients.
-
Thin foams: Lower pressure.
-
Heavy creams: Slightly higher pressure.
-
Note: Never exceed the maximum pressure rating of your dispenser.
Shipping and Delivery
How is Smartwhip shipped within Canada?
Because Smartwhip contains pressurized gas, it is classified as Dangerous Goods (Class 2.2). We ship exclusively via ground couriers like UPS, Canpar, and Purolator.
-
No Canada Post: We cannot ship to PO Boxes or via Canada Post.
How long does delivery take?
-
Ontario & Quebec: 1–3 business days.
-
Western & Atlantic Canada: 3–6 business days.
-
Northern Territories: 7–10 business days (remote surcharges may apply).
Disposal and Recycling
How do I dispose of an empty Smartwhip cylinder?
Smartwhip cylinders are made of high-quality, 100% recyclable aluminum or steel.
-
Fully Depressurize: Use the pressure release nozzle (included in most kits) to ensure the tank is completely empty.
-
Recycle: Once empty, the cylinder can be placed in your local scrap metal recycling bin.
-
Do Not Trash: Never throw pressurized or partially full cylinders in regular household garbage.
Usage and Compatibility
What equipment do I need to use Smartwhip?
To use a Smartwhip cylinder, you need three main components:
-
The Smartwhip Cylinder (640g tank).
-
A Pressure Regulator: This connects to the tank and allows you to control the flow of gas.
-
A Filling Hose: This connects the regulator to your cream dispenser.
-
A Pressure-Resistant Cream Dispenser: Most standard brands (like iSi or Mosa) are compatible.
Can I use Smartwhip with any cream dispenser?
Most professional-grade cream dispensers are compatible with the Smartwhip system. However, you must ensure your dispenser is in good working order and rated for pressurized use. Always use the Smartwhip adapter to ensure a secure, leak-free connection.
Safety and Storage
How should I store my Smartwhip cylinders?
Safety is our priority. Please follow these storage guidelines:
-
Temperature: Store in a cool, dry place between 3°C and 50°C. Never leave cylinders in a hot car or near an open flame.
-
Position: Store cylinders upright and secured to prevent them from falling.
-
Ventilation: Ensure the storage area is well-ventilated.
What should I do if my tank is leaking?
If you hear a persistent hissing sound, immediately move the tank to a well-ventilated outdoor area. Do not attempt to “fix” the valve yourself. Contact our support team for guidance.
Ordering and Wholesale
Do you offer bulk discounts for restaurants?
Yes! We provide tiered pricing for cafes, restaurants, and catering companies. Buying by the case (6 or 12 units) or by the pallet is the most cost-effective way to buy Smartwhip in Canada. Please visit our Shop Page for a custom quote.
Can I change or cancel my order?
